Eleven members of the DFP, including two profesores, three post-docs and six students of the Epidemiology and Plant-pathogen interaction labs attended the  5th International Symposium on Fusarium head blight e 2nd International Workshop on wheat blast, join meeting held at Florianópolis, Brazil, from 6 to 10 April 2016.

Fusarium head blight and blast are among the most important diseases of wheat worldwide. Blast was restricted to Brazil until early March this year, when outbreaks of devastating effect were found in Bangladesh, Asia. The Department was the largest research group from the Brazilian Universities attending the meeting with the presentation of eight posters and one keynote talk by Prof. Fabrício Rodrigues. Prof. Emerson Del Ponte led the scientific committee of the meeting with counted with 165 participants from a total of 30 countries.
